Where can I find God?

When we experience how nature wakes up again after the winter; when we are carried away by the beauty in music; and when we see a baby boy smiling at his grandmother; then we know that there is a God.

But how can we come closer to him? How can we get to know him on the personal level? How can we find out if the faith in God’s existence has any relevance for our daily life, our family and our future? Let me give you three simple, practical suggestions.

On you own. First, find your self a Bible and start to read it systematically! If you think the language in the official translations is too difficult, try one of the more modern alternatives. Each time when you sit down to read, say a prayer, for example, “God, help me to understand what I am reading. Help me to find something today that I can apply to my own situation. Speak to me through you Word. ”After the reading, pray again with reference to what you just read, and speak to God what is on you heart.

Start with the Gospel According to Luke in the New Testament. Then continue with the Acts of the Apostles, which is also written by Luke. In between you can read a Psalm, maybe one each day. This will get you started, and then you can make up a plan of your own for reading the whole Bible, or ask for a Bible reading plan in a church or a Christian bookstore. God is not far from each one of us.

'For in him we live and move and have our being.' (Acts 17:27-28)

In the church. Second, go to church! Simply to enter a sanctuary sometimes makes you experience the presence of God. You see the symbols that remind you about God, and you realize that it is a place of many prayers. But you will enjoy the real purpose of the church, when you participate in the worship service. You will participate with other believers in the prayers, and you will listen to the sermon, which is an explanation of the Word of God (the Bible) and an interpretation for today. Be sure that you find a worship service where you understand the language and where the sermon is relevant. I tried to understand it all. But it was more than I could handle. It troubled me until I entered God's temple. (Psalm 73:16-17)

Together with other Christians. Third, join a Christian small group! It is not enough to listen in a worship service. You also need a closer fellowship where you can ask questions, share your joys and concerns, and pray together with friends. Very often, it is in such a setting where you get a sense of direction for your life and support for you decisions and commitment. Ask in the for such a group, or use the contact information on this website.

For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them. (Matthew 18:20)
