A Road Map for the Period till 2015.
The Annual Conference of UMC in Eurasia – 2009
The Annual Conference of UMC in Eurasia took place in Moscow, August 26-28, 2009. The whole day of the 27th of August was devoted to the adoption of our church vision till 2015 that was called “Road Map”.
In the letter to the Annual Conferences, that proceded the discussion, Bishop Hans Vaxby wrote about the necessity to consider the Road Map.
“That is what we already know. “The United Methodist Church in Eurasia meets many difficulties, we don’t have as many resources as we would like to have, also we lack experience in some questions. But we have found the right way, we know where we are moving and we take purposeful steps”. This statement is from the last year Bishop’s report and appeal to the Annual Conferences and I believe that most of us can agree to that.
The main direction for our church is quite clear. “The Mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world” (The Book of Discipline ¶ 120 as amended by the General Conference 2008).
The quality of the Christianity goes from the inside. Jesus said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:37-38). True Christianity is not a religion, but the relationships.
The Church doesn’t exist for the sake of itself. That is why it is very important “to equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Ephesians 4:12) and “forgetting what lies behind … straining forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13).
All the Annual Conferences gave their proposals that were considered and generalized. Eventually the following vision of the United Methodist Church in Eurasia was adopted:
“In 2015 we see UMC in Eurasia dynamically growing, recognized by the society, helping people to become deeply committed Christians!
Quality in ministry
Education
Self-sufficiency
Mission, evangelism, growth
Social service”
